Why Do Brides Follow These Popular Wedding Customs and Traditions?

Have you ever wondered the reasons behind some of the common wedding customs? Well, here are your answers...

Wear Something Blue: To symbolize fidelity. Popular choices for the bride's something blue include bridal jewelry, shoes, a blue sash on the bridal gown, or the wedding date embroidered inside her dress in blue thread.

Kiss The Groom: Well, obviously we know why a couple in love would want to share a kiss! But the custom actually dates back to Roman times, when a kiss was a legal way of sealing a contract, much like a handshake was in recent times. Keep in mind that back in those days, marriages were arranged for mutual gain between the two families, so the marriage typically was more like a business merger than the romantic union that we think of today.

Have Bridesmaids: Once upon a time, it was believed that brides were extremely lucky. That was great, except for the evil spirits that were believed to be drawn to her, presumably to steal her luck. In self-defense, the bride would gather around her a group of women who were dressed identically to her to confuse the evil spirits and keep her safe. And bridesmaids today think they have it bad!

Get Married In June: There is a traditional reason why the month of June is so popular for weddings. This is another old Roman custom, because the Roman goddess Juno (for whom June is named) was the goddess of marriage, home, and childbirth. June is also associated with two other bridal favorites, pearls and roses.
